Berkmann's Wine Cellars

Poggio Antico

At 450 metres, Poggio Antico is one of the highest producers of Brunello. The breezes at this altitude keep the grapes disease-free, promoting purity in the wine, while the stringent yields give concentration, allowing three years’ ageing in oak (more for the Riserva). The downside is, of course, rarity: despite the considerable size of the property, annual production averages just 7,700 cases, and the winery struggles to keep up with demand.
