In the final element of the judging process from this year’s competition, 40 judges visited the SWA stand at Imbibe Live 2016 to take part in deciding the overall winning candidates and we are excited to announce that our very own Zero-G Zweigelt was named Gastropub Wine of The Year to complement the Gold Medal and By The Glass award it has won already. Announcing the award, the SWA stated:
‘The award for Gastropub Wine of the Year went, for the first time, to an Austrian red wine – the impressively priced Eschenhof Holzer Zero-G Zweigelt 2013. This attractive mid-weight red, costing just £7.93 from Berkmann Wine Cellars, had already impressed our judges sufficiently to win a By The Glass Award; so picking up a Wine of the Year award as well really did round off a terrific competition.’
This new award comes alongside the Gold Medal won by the Zero-G Grüner-Veltliner, raising the question, is there a better pair of Austrian wines available at this price point?. We don’t think so and the 40 leading sommeliers who voted for these wines would seem to agree. Like the mountain goats from which the wines take their name, their ascent to the top is proving effortless.
